With computer tool, experts discover more than 130,000 new RNA viruses-however MX

The experts, an international team of scientists, analyzed 5.7 million biological samples and detected more than 30 new species of coronavirus within the 130 thousand viruses found.

Madrid, Jan two6 (EFE) .- Viruses are the most numerous biological agents that are known.Now, an international team of scientists with Spanish participation has discovered more than 130 thousand new RNA viruses through a new computer tool.

For this analysis, the multidisciplinary team developed Serratus, a cloud computing infrastructure (Amazon Web Services) that, using a cluster of twotwo,500 computer processors, allowed massive searches for viral sequences in the millions of gigabytes of available sequencing datain public databases.

The detailed analysis of certain viral families allowed the discovery of more than 30 new species of coronavirus, including interesting examples in aquatic vertebrates such as fish and amphibians whose coronavirus presented a segmented genome in two fragments, a feature described in other virus families but not detectedbefore in any member of the Coronavirus.
